Alek: For you, what are the most important factors that go into a successful and original design? What is it about your work that sets you apart from other designers? Or, maybe, what are the little things you love to do and can't seem to get away from?

Jordan: Ummm... I don't know ... I always say (and this goes for most things) all you need is ONE truly good idea to base a project on... most won't even have that single idea. This could range from "I'm going to zoom into shit" (this could arguably be something "I love to do and can't get away from") to "hey, I'm going to make him and his house out of paper"... of course executing that idea is another issue altogether.

Alek: In sites like billyharveymusic.com, you really seem to be pulling all the punches. What are you trying to achieve with these highly interactive and entertaining sites?

Jordan: Trying to achieve? Well I'm not sure about that but when I get into the groove I want to make the best site possible. There are no calculations of "well he's paying me this much money so I'll do this much work...." I always go all out on that end. I've often felt like a drug addict ... because well, you know once you get me hooked I really can't help myself.

Alek: What are your plans for the future? So you've got a nice web design career going, but if you could get paid to do anything--something even less applied, more fun and "out there" than you are doing now--what would it be? What are you most interested in learning that you don't already know?

Jordan: No future plans.

Alek: What do you see as the future of web design? You're already using video, audio, and animation, but what new technologies will be most important for a designer to learn over the next few years?

Jordan: I've always reckoned once realtime 3D is easy to do on the web there will be a batch of truly truly shitty sites where everything is like Wolfenstein 3D... "welcome to our tropical fish store ... please walk over and take a look at the fish!"

Alek: What advice would you give to young designers trying to get started in the web design industry?

Jordan: Be stupid enough (like me) to not realize the enormous holes you are digging with some of your ideas. Many times, after a project, I've thought: "damn, I'm glad I didn't know how much fucking work that was going to be or I may not have tried it....." ooooh, I've got another.... : use "the internet" as a way to figure out coding problems etc.... not as a place to gather ideas....

Alek: Boxers or briefs?

Jordan: It depends on the situation. If I'm sitting at home in my pajamas working, then I'll take the boxers.... but if I'm playing basketball I need to wrap that sucker up.
